May 13, 2005, Jeff Brown breathed a sigh of relief. Though the owner of
Downtown El Segundo�s venerable eatery the Richmond Bar and Grill
didn�t exactly lose sleep worrying about the fate of Los Angeles
Air Force Base, he couldn�t help but smile when he heard the news
that the facility, which develops and acquires satellite systems, was
not on the Defense Department�s preliminary list of military
installations pegged for closure or relocation. Brown could take that
smile straight to the bank. �If the base were going to leave, it
would devastate El Segundo and take out 20 to 25 percent of my business
easily,� he opinioned. �And that�s a conservative
estimate.� ...
